I love fall because it usually signals baitfish moving back shallow and bass busting topwater lures. I’ve been fishing with the Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 125 since this summer and a lot of anglers have been asking what I thought about it after seeing some pictures on Instagram. Here’s a quick look and rundown on this new topwater for Yo-Zuri.
Quality made
When I got my hands on some of the new Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 125 topwaters, I was impressed by their quality. Very well crafted, the prism colors, solid hardware, and overall thick feeling of the bait let me know this would be a quality topwater. But the proof is always in what the bait looks like in the water.
Great detailing
The detailing on the bait not only offers an exceptional look in the water, but it also packs features that help the bait fish better. It’s a 5-inch bait that weighs 1 ounce and has three solid, sharp trebles. I’ve experimented with adding a feathered treble and also the new VMC Bladed Hybrid trebles. The baits come stock with three round-bend trebles. The gills are flared, the eyes molded and the tail tapered for a dramatic look and action.
Good casting weight and knocker
The weighted tungsten ball in the back of the bait offers anglers very impressive casting distance and a great knocking sound on the retrieve. The bait slashes easily back and forth causing a great noise and commotion. Even on a super long cast, I was able to get the bait walking in one snap of the rod tip.
Cupped mouth and direct tie
The Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 125 has a cupped mouth and direct line tie with no split ring. I like tying a loop knot to my topwaters. With 65-pound braid I had no problem tying and fishing a loop knot and was able to land several quality bass to 5 pounds on the bait.
The patented Yo-Zuri wave lines on the underside are said to help the bait move and emit more disturbance in the water as the lure is worked.
Fishes great
The Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 125 fishes so good. It walks easy, has a great splash and sound on the walk and sticks fish really well with the stock hooks. It throws great, retrieves great and hooks great. It’s definitely one those bigger topwaters you can tie on and leave on your deck all summer and fall.
Awesome color selection
I really like the color selection on the Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 125 topwater lures. I caught several fish on Clear, Prism Silver Blue, Bone and Prism Chartreuse Silver. But most of the colors look great and will have a good fit on a variety of fisheries.
Very attractive to bass
My first couple of outings showed how good the Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 125 was going to be. I’ve kept it rigged and on the deck since the end of this summer. I’ve had some big blowups and caught several nice bass on the baits already without any signs of wear.
The hooks have penetrated and held fish well. I think anglers will love these topwater baits because at $7.99 you are getting JDM quality at an extremely good value.
