Finesse fishing has been one of my favorite ways to fish ever since I was a child. It started with throwing small Ned rigs and grubs and streams, and has graduated to using electronics and light line in big water. No matter where or how I fishing, I love a good fight on light finesse gear. Over the last several years of finesse fishing I’ve had the ability to test hundreds if not thousands of different baits. Throughout this testing I’ve found a variety of different lures I really enjoy using. One of the most recent baits I’ve been able to play around with is the Rebel Liveflex Shore Shiner. This bait is extremely affordable and comes with everything you need to catch fish in a variety of different scenarios.
SHORE SHINER BUILD
The Rebel LiveFlex Shore Shiner Swimbait is a finesse bait designed to attract even the most pressured fish with its universal baitfish profile and subtle swimming action. Its compact paddle tail delivers a natural motion, while the scent-infused, flexible plastic closely mimics prey. The LiveFlex’s unique flexibility and floating properties enhance its lifelike presentation giving anglers and extremely natural look.
The package includes two pre-rigged Rebel Keg Head Jigs and one additional jig, making the Rebel LiveFlex baits versatile for various techniques such as bouncing through current, dragging bottom, swimming, drop shots, and Texas rigs. Available in colors that closely resemble common forage and a highly durable plastic construction, the Rebel LiveFlex Shore Shiner Swimbait offers excellent longevity and performance at a price anyone can afford.
SHORE SHINER APPLICATIONS
I’ve used the Rebel Liveflex Shore Shiner for a variety of different application. Ive caught both bass and panfish on this lure, and have quickly found two scenarios where this baits really excels. The first is targeting small streams and rivers for bass. I first used this bait on a local river close to my home here in Knoxville, Tennessee. I threw this bait around current seems, boulders and laydowns practicing a slow steady retrieve. I caught numerous smallmouth without ever having to change my soft plastic swimbait. I was really impressed with the baits durability and performance around strong current and rocky cover.
Another scenario where this bait really shines is targeting fish in open water. I’ve used this bait for both bass and panfish, however it really performs when targeting crappie in open water. I typically fish this lure by throwing it past the crappie and other types of panfish, then slowly reeling it back keeping it above their heads. I usaully slow the bait down until I see one engage, then I’ll gradually increase my retrieval speed until it decides to commit. I’ve caught some giant crappie on this lure, and I really enjoy using it in conjunction with forward facing sonar.
SHORE SHINER SETUP
I’ve been throwing this bait for around a month now. Throughout this time I’ve found the perfect setup for effectively fishing this finesse style lure. To start, I typically throw this bait on 6-pound fluorocarbon. This seems to get the best action and response out of the lure. For a rod, I prefer a shorter length with a medium-light action. This shorter rod allows for accurate casts while the parabolic action allows you to play fish on lighter line. One of my go to rods is the 6-foot 10-inch medium-light action Fenwick Elite Spinning Rod.
For a reel I prefer one with light components and a smaller spool. This smaller spool is great for accompanying light line, while the light components lessen fatigue and increase casting accuracy. One of my go to reels for the Rebel Liveflex Shore Shiner is the Shimano Sedona FJ 2500 Spinning Reel. This is my go to setup for this style of lure, and I’ve found tons of success throwing it in all sorts of scenarios this summer. If your in the market for a cost effective lure that works for a variety of different species, I recommend checking out the Liveflex Shore Shiner from Rebel.
