Pond and bank fishing is what initially introduced me to the world of bass fishing. Even as a tournament angler, I still love hitting up a farm pond whenever the opportunity presents itself. I recently got a new travel rod that has re-sparked my love for pond and bank fishing. The Handing M1 Two Piece Spinning Rod is the perfect option for someone looking for an affordable rod you can take virtually anywhere.
MY FAVORITE FEATURES
I use two-piece rods for their portability. Being able to toss this rod in a backpack, suitcase or various other locations make it ideal for on-the-go fishing. The Handing M1 two-piece spinning rod is perfect for beach trips, pond fishing or any other scenario where you have to pack your fishing tackle. This rod breaks down right in the middle, creating two easy to store 3 1/2-foot sections of rod.
Another one of my favorite features of this rod is its carbon blank. Crafted from nine layers of 24-ton carbon, the blank is extremely durable and while remaining sensitive. Durability is super important in two-piece rods, as they are often stashed in unsafe locations.
Not only does this rod feature a high-quality blank, but it also has top of the line components throughout this rod. The Handing M1 spinning rod features Fuji O+A line guides, a custom graphite reel seat and a unique hook keeper, making it easy to transport. And at less than $60, this rod is a stellar deal for anyone looking for a high performing two-piece rod.

APPLICATIONS
Whenever I’m fishing from the bank I typically prefer a spinning rod. That’s not to say that casting rods don’t work in this scenario, I was just raised using a spinning rod on the bank. This rod is perfect for a variety of applications I grew up using, and it has quickly become one of my favorite rods in those scenarios. One of my favorite techniques for this M1 spinning rod is throwing a wacky-rigged stick bait. This is the perfect length and action for this presentation, and it has caught me some truly giant bass over the years.
Another presentation I really enjoy using the M1 spinning rod for is throwing a Ned rig. Ned rigs are largely considered one of the best pond baits of all time, and you can catch virtually any sized bass on this lure. This rod features a strong backbone, yet its tip is parabolic enough to handle light tackle. These are two baits I always have tied on when I walk the bank, and this rod is perfect for both presentations.
BLAME IT ALL ON MY ROOTS
I’ve really enjoyed going back to my roots fishing local ponds and banks over the last several days. The M1 two-piece spinning rod has really impressed me throughout these adventures, especially given its competitive price point. If you’re looking for a versatile travel rod that can handle all sorts of fishing scenarios, I highly recommend giving the Handing M1 two-piece spinning rod a try.
