The Ned rig is one of the most effective bass fishing rigs in existence right now. Whether you’re fishing big lakes, rivers, creeks or farm ponds, you can expect a lot of bites on it. As the rig and its applications have evolved over the years, so have the soft-plastic baits anglers are using with it. We’ve had an opportunity to test the Z-Man TRD CrawZ for quite a while and there has rarely been a time when it didn’t produce nice bass for us.

If you’re looking to get a bunch of bites this year, this is a bait you need to keep on your radar. Here’s what you need to know about it.

The Z-Man TRD CrawZ is available at the following retailers:

The claws float when paused

A lot of companies will boast about the claws on their crayfish-imitating baits; they all claim that they float and mimic the natural defensive posture of a crayfish. Truth be told, however, a lot of these claws may float for a second or two, but very few float for an extended period of time.

Thanks to the Z-Man’s ElaZtech material, the claws of the TRD CrawZ actually float and they keep floating. We’ve found this material to be quite buoyant and it looks incredibly realistic underwater.

Flat belly creates a gliding action

You’ll get a lot of bites on the fall with the TRD CrawZ. This isn’t a coincidence, though. The flat underside of this bait facilitates an enticing gliding action as it falls on slack line and throughout our testing, the bass have loved it.

This has made it a great option for post-frontal days. After a weather front passes through an area, the fishing gets notoriously tough for a day or two because bass will often suspend and become tough to catch. With a lightweight jighead and TRD CrawZ, you can target these fish effectively.

We’ve had a lot of success pitching it around dock posts, beside floating docks and to the ends of fallen trees.

Beautiful color selection

Z-Man has created some great-looking colors in the TRD CrawZ. You can still get your traditional colors like green pumpkin and black/blue, but you’re also able to choose from some more new-school colors as well.

Our favorites so far have been Molting Craw, Drew’s Craw and The Deal. If you know what the crawfish in your area tend to look like, you shouldn’t have any problems matching them to one of the 13 colors offered in this bait.

It will get bites anywhere. Seriously.

This is one of the best fish-catchers we’ve tested, to be honest. At 2 1/2 inches long, don’t let its small profile fool you. It will get a bunch of bites and it can certainly fool big bass, too.

At just $3.59 per pack, the value is really tough to beat. This ElaZtech material allows you to catch dozens upon dozens of fish on a single TRD CrawZ, so just a few packs will last you a long time.
