Pitt Breaks BFL Catch and Big Bass Records

Cody Pitt has won a few events on Toledo Bend, so he’s no stranger to the winners circle on this famed Texas Louisiana Pond. So when he won the Bass Fishing League this past Saturday on Toledo Bend, no one was surprised. Everyone, however, including himself, was surprised in the manner in which he smashed all the BFL records in the process.

Using a combination of V&M Football Jigs with J-Bug trailers and Strike King 6XD and 10XD Crankbaits, Pitt, and his co-angler Leroy Dee Sheperd, plied several of his “juice” spots capturing several big bass on each of the spots, including the biggest ever caught in a Major League Fishing BFL event at 13 pounds, 6 ounces. Not only did he break the big bass record, but he also broke the BFL single day tournament record for Toledo Bend with his limit weighing 39 pounds, 15 ounces. That catch is in fact the 6th largest limit ever for all MLF competitions. His second biggest fish was a 7 pounder, so that tells you how good his quality was. More than 20 pounds in 2 fish and coming just 1-ounce shy of 40 pounds is a day of bass fishing most will ever dream of.

Pitt had a good limit in the middle part of the day after a slow start, but wanted to help his co-angler fill his limit. So they hit some numbers spots and then a couple more big fish spots just because he was afraid the “Livescopers” could still catch him. He caught another 6 and another 5 1/2 and he already had so much weight the 5 1/2 didn’t even help him. That’s when he knew it was time to go in. So they headed for the ramp and called it a day taking all three titles as his co-angler also won on the co-angler side. Good thing he made the extra stop as second place was Tate Reynolds with an impressive 31-pound, 14-ounce limit using Livescope to target his fish.
