Angler Matthew Dunham caught an enormous bass for his region of the country this past week. While fishing on Monday on Indian Scout Lake in South Dakota, he caught a 9-pound, 5-ounce largemouth bass just minutes before dark. The bass measured 23 inches with a girth of 19 7/8 inches.
The fish beats the previous state record caught in 1999. That fish weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces and was caught in a gravel pit.
