College Angler Dies in Boating Accident During Night Tournament

Two members of the Erskine Bass Fishing Team from Erskine College in South Carolina were fishing a night tournament on Lake Secession Friday night when a tragic accident happened. At 11:41 pm on March 12, 2021, as the team was running back to weigh-in, 18-year-old Jack Hunt was struck by debris that popped out of the water and killed him. The Abbeville Coroner ruled his death an accident.

The Erskine Bass Fishing Team and locally community are reeling after his death and shared this message about his tragic passing on their Facebook Page

“For some moments in life there are no words.

“Last night, our family lost a brother, a teammate, a true friend, and a young man with a gift and pure passion for the sport of bass fishing. While two of our guys were night fishing, there was a freak boating accident, which ended tragic. We will never fully understand why this accident happened, but it shows us exactly how precious life is. We are devastated, yet beyond grateful for our time we had with Jack, and his presence he will leave on this team. We are also grateful for our other brother, Hunter, who was also part of the accident, to still be here with us, with no injuries.

“Pray for these families. Pray for the entire bass fishing community that lost a friend today. Pray for peace for all, and that Jack’s legacy and love for life and this sport lives on.”
