Professional bass angler Justin Atkins shares his top 3 tips for getting more action and better hookups when bass fishing with topwater lures.
A split ring on the eye of the bait allows for more freedom of movement but can damage fishing knots. Justin’s workaround is to remove the split ring altogether and tie a loop knot using braid direct to the lure. A moderate action rod is a must with this no-stretch braid setup; it minimizes premature hook sets and tearing off skin hooked fish, yet has plenty of power to drive home heavy hooks.
