14-pound Bass Caught in La. State Park Lake

Reports started coming in Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, that an angler had caught and weighed a 14-pound bass in Louisiana. We were pretty excited because we love big fish stories. According to the report on Louisiana Sportsman, David Houston of Winnsboro, La. landed a 14.08-pound bass from Poverty Point Reservoir, a 2,700 acre lake located in Poverty Point State Park near Delhi, La. The fish was weighed on certified scales. The crazy part was it was bigger around than it was long. It was 23 1/2 inches long with a 24 3/4-inch girth.

There aren’t many details about how it was caught or where on the lake but there was some uncorroborated reports that it was caught on a plastic worm. A quick view of Houston’s Facebook page, and we saw he caught a 10-pounder last month.

The fish is the new lake record. The previous lake record was 13.06 pounds caught in 2012. For more details on the fish and the catch, see this article on Louisiana Sportsman. Congrats David on an awesome bass!
